    The road to climate neutrality

We want to be climate neutral by 2040 – it’s the biggest challenge we’ve ever faced. We’re part of the problem. So it’s our responsibility to change what we do and how we do it. Let’s all be part of the solution.

    Our ambitions
    Climate action

    Be a climate-neutral company by 2040

    Circular economy

Be a circular business by 2040

    Ethical and responsible business

Be a recognized leader in ethical and responsible business

    How to get there?
    Fully electric by 2030

Today, all our cars have an electrified version. We plan to become a fully electric car company by 2030 – by then we want all our new cars to be pure electric. We’re all in.

Ambition: 50% sales to be pure electric models

Plan: every new Volvo model to be pure electric

    But electrification is not enough

We need to reduce all our direct and indirect emissions. So we’re tackling CO2 within our supply chain and operations – this includes embracing the circular economy.

    Mid-decade milestones

As an interim step towards our climate neutral by 2040 target, we’re aiming to reduce the lifecycle carbon footprint per vehicle by 40 per cent between 2018 and 2025.

We support the goals of the Paris Agreement

The Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi)* has approved our ambitious plan to become a climate-neutral company by 2040. According to SBTi, our emissions reduction targets are in line with the goals of the Paris Agreement to limit global warming to well below 2°C compared to pre-industrial levels. We’re committed to reducing our impact on the planet and we know it’ll take a global effort. So it’s important to collaborate with other like-minded companies, suppliers and organisations, to drive our own sustainability performance and change within our industry.

*SBTi is a collaboration between the Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP), the United Nations Global Compact, the World Resources Institute (WRI) and the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF).
