Discover Volvo’s V Lineup for the 2023 Model Year
April 24 2023,
Volvo’s V models are the Swedish manufacturer’s station wagons. While this type of vehicle is not as popular as it once was, Volvo succeeded in introducing high-quality vehicles that will make you question this decline.
Come discover the three Volvo cars in the V lineup, as well as the differences among them that could lead you to choose one over the other.
The Cars in the V Lineup
For 2023, there’s two different Volvo V60 models and one V90 model. Here’s a glimpse of the versions offered in Canada, including their starting prices:
- V60: $56,220
- V60 Cross Country: $56,220
- V90 Cross Country: $72,020
The V60 was originally offered in a Recharge trim, but the stocks are depleted at Volvo Canada. We no doubt will have to wait until 2024 to see another plug-in hybrid version of the V60.
You’re looking for a station wagon and you’re wondering which car to buy in 2023? All three models in the V lineup are excellent choices. Since they achieve different goals, it’s important that you understand the advantages of each model well before you make a choice.
As a rule, station wagons are good vehicles if you want a driving experience similar to a car’s while having a bit more space than the average sedan.
Volvo V60 and V90: The Powertrains
The vehicles in the V lineup use Volvo engines that are classified “B.” The B5 and B6 are mild hybrid powertrains. Here’s a comparison between the two powertrains available inside the V60 and V90.

The Volvo V60 and the V60 Cross Country: The Main Differences
The two V60 models have some basic differences that could lead you to choose one over the other.
The first difference involves the transmission. In fact, the V60 Cross Country offers all-wheel drive standard, while the V60 offers front-wheel drive instead. As a result, the V60 CC is better adapted for overcoming obstacles.
As for fuel consumption, both models are fairly similar, with a combined consumption of 9.1 L/100 km for the V60 and 9.0 L/100 km for the CC.
Moreover, the Cross Country trim also comes with a Hill Descent Control system to help you go down hills easily. Auto123’s road test sums up very well the reasons that could lead you to choose the Cross Country:
“If you like its rugged looks and slightly increased off-road chops
– plus the more lifestyle-ish feel –
then the CC is a good choice.”
If you don’t plan on using the Cross Country’s off-road capabilities, then the V60 offers a more enjoyable urban driving experience, thanks to an engine that’s more efficient in the city.
The Volvo V90 and the V60: How Do They Compare?
First, the V60 and the V90 are different in terms of size. The V90 measures 172 mm longer than the V60. This translates into extra cargo volume.
While the two V60 trims offer 519 L of cargo volume behind the rear seats, the V90 model’s cargo volume goes up to 551 L. This volume can be increased to 1,441 L and 1,517 L respectively, by folding down the rear seats.
In addition to this size difference, the Volvo V90 Cross Country combines the powerful supercharged engine of the V60 with all-wheel drive.
All three station wagons offer excellent accessories and in-car technologies, like:
- Panoramic sunroof standard
- Electric tailgate
- Subscription to Google Assistant, Google Maps and Google Play Store
- Apple CarPlay compatibility
- And much more!
Yet, the V90 goes even further, with optional accessories like a Bowers & Wilkins high-fidelity audio system with 19 speakers and a subwoofer.
For a vehicle that gives a solid performance, as well as all the comfort expected of a luxury vehicle, the V90 CC is the Volvo wagon for you.
