Volvo XC60 2019 vs. Audi Q5 2019
November 07 2019, Volvo Laval
Compact crossovers are increasingly popular these days, and if you've narrowed down your shopping list to the 2019 Volvo XC60 and 2019 Audi Q5, you're certainly on the right track as these are two luxury SUVs that offer attractive technological features, performance and agility on the road.
Volvo Laval near the North Shore, St-Eustache and just a few minutes from Montreal shows you how these two SUVs stack up against each other.
Volvo or Audi?
With a sleek design, refined lines and a rather dynamic and sporty look, the Volvo XC60 looks more attractive than the Audi Q5, with its elegant proportions and a nose adorned with hammer-shaped daytime running lights much like Thor’s ‒ the God of lightning and thunder. The Audi still scores points, but because of its more conventional look, the Q5 doesn’t stand out; the score is then 1-0 for Volvo.
Under the hood, the Volvo XC60 offers a 2.0-litre, 4-cylinder, dual-supercharged engine with 250 horsepower and 258 lb-ft of torque, and all versions of this SUV have all-wheel-drive, giving it unparalleled handling. As for Audi, its Q5 model features a 2.0-litre, 4-cylinder DOHC turbocharged engine with 248 horsepower and 273 lb-ft of torque and a seven-speed automatic transmission. Volvo's T6, T8 and AWD versions produce up to 400 horsepower (hybrid model), while the SQ5 versions (for 2020) provide 349 horsepower, while the Audi hybrid model boasts 367 horsepower; the two SUVs rank very well with their respective powertrains.
The XC60 interior is elegant, comfortable and innovative, and Volvo has always been committed to advanced safety. The XC60’s seats fit your body and keep you comfortable, while being both user-friendly and extremely safe; in our opinion, Volvo seats are probably the best in the world. In addition, a 9-inch vertical touch screen allows you to see all information at a glance and Scandinavian ingenuity is evident in the vehicle’s level of comfort, elegance and choice of materials. In the Q5, the screen overlooking the dashboard may seem like it limits visibility, but the SUV is made of quality materials, with the exception of its seats, which pale in comparison to those of the Volvo XC60. In terms of rear legroom, there is no significant difference between the two SUVs, and both can accommodate 5 passengers. However, the consensus is that the XC60 is more elegant than the Q5.
In terms of advanced safety, Volvo is way ahead of the competition with its same-lane vehicle approach avoidance system, hill descent assistance, adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go function, sleepiness monitoring system, heads-up display, imminent impact assistance including pedestrian detection, 360-degree camera and more. Additional active safety features are not as extensive on the Audi Q5, despite its numerous essential functions, so the 2019 Volvo XC60 has a leg up on the 2019 Audi Q5.
On the road, both SUVs behave with elegance and performance, but the Volvo XC60 seems to offer more flexibility when it comes to negotiating curves on Quebec's winding roads. In terms of storage capacity, both vehicles offer ample space both in the cabin and in the rear.
Who Wins the Game?
These two luxury SUVs offer great possibilities, but because of its outstanding design, its high performance on the road thanks to extremely safe and predictable handling, its advanced safety systems, its comfort and elegance, the Volvo XC60 is one step ahead of its German rival, the Q5.
